A selection of repairs, upgrades, custom builds and performance work completed at The Airsoft Bench. Each project shows the problem, the work carried out and the result, with photos and testing where appropriate.
Completed Projects
Project | Delta Armory Stribog Alpha – Reliability & Performance Build
Problem/Goal: Lower-than-desired FPS, inconsistent shot-to-shot performance, lacklustre hop performance and excessive gearbox noise. The aim was to improve consistency, reliability and overall shooting performance while keeping the replica within site limits.
Work carried out: Piston head and cylinder head replaced to improve air seal, hop rubber changed to a Friction Pro, inner barrel cleaned, shimming checked and adjusted, and motor height checked and corrected.
Result: FPS increased to within the required site limit, shot-to-shot consistency much improved, gearbox noise reduced to an acceptable level, and hop performance became more stable and predictable.
Project | KWA Scarlett-47 DTU installation.
Problem/Goal: Customer reported fitment issues, requested I take a look and see if I can get it installed and working.
Work carried out: Fitted the Rhino DTU, adjustment to wire positioning was required. Checked shimming, airseal and lubrication while I had the gearbox out, Cleaned inner barrel and checked hop alignment.
Result: DTU now fully working, much better trigger response on semi and auto set to 3rd burst.
Project | Wolverine MTW Service.
Problem/Goal: Replace O-rings in inferno engine, check hop unit as it has been adjusting itself.
Work carried out: All O-rings in the Inferno engine were changed and lubricated, hop adjustment wheel checked but no issue found, this is to be observed over the next few game days for self-adjustment.
Result: Inferno engine working perfectly and shooting consistently.
Project | Boneyard SSR4 Restoration
Problem/Goal: Reportedly just needed a new etu.... Well, that was so far from the truth. No motor, wires to etu cut off, horrible paint job, central gearbox pin missing, "bolt release" missing, one grip screw missing, one gearbox screw missing, no selector plate, one bushings missing, ONE SHIM in the whole gearbox, scored cylinder, damaged piston head, minimal airseal, gearbox full of old lubricant and dirt, hop c-clip badly damaged, no nub in hop chamber.
All in all a very bad state. Time to give it the TAB treatment and bring it back to life.
Work carried out: Stripped old paint off, rebuilt entire gearbox with all new parts and included Gate Aster II, maple leaf 310mm inner barrel, 4uantum rubber and nub.
Result: 1.1 joules on 0.3g rebel precision bbs, 32 rounds per second, seemingly flawless feeding.
Project | Specna Arms B16
Problem/Goal: Customer wanted to shorten it a little, increase power, change from 18:1 to 16:1 gears and a general inspection.
Work carried out: Inner barrel changed from 475mm to 430mm, 4uad rubber and nub installed. 16:1 gears installed, barrel extension and flash hider replaced with flash hider. Inspection and chrono test.
Result: Power increased to just over 1 joule, improved trigger response, shortened as per request, better hop rubber and bucking.
